UGC ads for brands

UGC ads for brands: how to run them, what they cost and which tools to use.

UGC ads are paid social ads made from creator videos filmed in a customer's voice. To run them, brief three to five creators for two or three hooks each, buy paid usage rights, test every video as its own ad, then rebook the creators whose ads win. A micro creator's 15 to 30 second video runs about $225.

Who this is for

This page is for the people who buy UGC to run as ads: founders who run their own Meta and TikTok accounts, and in-house growth, paid social and creative teams at bigger brands. If you sell UGC as a service, see UGC for agencies and studios instead.

Brand owners

You are the media buyer and the creative team. Start with three to five creators and a small test budget. The hard part is finding creators who film well in your category, not production.

In-house brand teams

You need volume and rights you can defend to legal: one repeatable brief, a usage term on every asset, a log of when rights expire and a bench of creators you rebook every month.

Hand it off if

nobody on the team can brief, review cuts and launch tests each week. A managed service that delivers finished ads fits better; see the tools below or agencies and studios.

Step by step

How to run UGC ads, step by step

Six steps from an empty ad account to a creator bench you rebook. Each one links to a free tool or the page with the detail.

  1. Give each ad one job

Cold traffic needs a hook-led demo; retargeting needs a testimonial that answers the main objection; a product page needs a short in-use clip. Shoot vertical 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Stories, 15 to 30 seconds, and decide the job before you brief anyone.

  2. Write a one-page brief

Product, buyer, three claims the creator must say, claims they must not make, two or three hook angles, deliverables (video, raw footage, extra hooks) and the usage term. The brief generator and hook generator draft both.

  3. Shortlist 3 to 5 from 20 to 30 candidates

Judge the last ten videos, not the follower count: a hook in the first three seconds, clear sound, the product in hand. For ads the creator's audience barely matters, so nano creators who film well are often enough. Browse by niche, such as beauty, fitness or tech.

  4. Agree price and rights in writing

Production fee, extra hooks, raw footage and a paid usage term, three months by default. Add whitelisting or Spark Ads access if the ad should run from the creator's handle. The UGC contract template covers every line.

  5. Launch as a clean test

Run each video as its own ad on the same audience and budget, and cut the extra hooks onto the best body. Read the hook rate and click-through first, then cost per purchase or install against your current best ad.

  6. Rebook winners, extend rights only on winners

Extend usage from three to twelve months only on the videos that keep winning, and brief the winning creators again with new angles. The UGC ROI calculator shows when a batch has paid back.

2026 planning estimates from the UGC Agent rate model, the same model behind our UGC rate calculator and UGC rates pages. Low, typical and high are a range to negotiate within, not a quote.

A first test from five micro creators, each delivering one video with two extra hooks and three months of paid usage, comes to $1,850 in creator fees ($1,250 to $2,900). That is 15 ad variations: five bodies with three openers each. Product, shipping, editing and media spend come on top.

Our product

Where UGC Agent fits, and where it does not

Use UGC Agent when

  • You want to choose creators yourself: filter 29,194 UGC creators by niche, country, platform and follower band, each with a public email.
  • You pay creators directly, so no marketplace percentage sits on creator pay. Your cost is the plan, from $29/month.
  • You want proof first: brand pages show which creators already post UGC for a brand, and creator tracking follows their videos.
  • Your niche is thin in the database: Super Search finds new creators live from a plain-English brief.

Pick something else when

  • You want finished, edited ads without talking to a creator. A managed service such as Icon or Billo does that.
  • You want creators to apply to your brief and be paid through escrow. Use a marketplace such as Insense or JoinBrands.
  • You want AI actors rather than people. Creatify and Arcads generate them; UGC Agent only finds human creators.
  • You need audience demographics because the creator will also post to their followers. An influencer database such as Modash covers that.

UGC Agent covers Instagram and TikTok. Plans: Pro $29/month (200 creator leads a month), Premium $59/month (5,000 leads, 5 seats, MCP) or Ultra $199/month (no caps, API, 10 seats), each starting with a 3-day free trial that shows every creator in full; emails and export unlock when the paid plan starts. See pricing.

Definitions

UGC ads, influencer ads and AI UGC are different buys

With UGC ads you buy a video and the right to run it from your ad account; the creator's audience is irrelevant. With influencer posts you buy reach on the creator's account, so audience data matters. Whitelisting and TikTok Spark Ads sit in between: your budget, the creator's handle.

AI UGC tools generate ads with synthetic actors. They are fast for testing angles and scripts, and some brands use them to find a winning script before paying a human creator to film it. Label them honestly; the platforms and many buyers treat them differently from real customers.

Testing

What to measure in the first two weeks

Judge each video against your current best ad on the same audience, not against an industry average. Read the hook rate (three-second views over impressions) first: if viewers do not stop, nothing after the hook matters. Then click-through, then cost per purchase, lead or install.

Keep a simple log per video: creator, angle, hook, spend, hook rate, cost per result, and the date the usage term ends. After two or three batches it tells you which creators and angles to rebook, which is the real output of a UGC ads program.

Markets

Running UGC ads in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany and the Nordics

Match the creator to the buyer's country and accent; a UK skincare ad voiced by a US creator reads as foreign. In our October 2026 index the United States has 9,750 UGC creators and the United Kingdom 3,799; Canada (453), Australia (361), Finland (261) and Germany (341) are thinner, so start sourcing earlier there or brief German-speaking creators across borders.

Paid creator content must be labelled as advertising: the FTC's Endorsement Guides apply in the US and the ASA and CMA rules in the UK, with similar rules in Canada, Australia and the EU. Write the disclosure into the brief so it is in the video, not added later. By category, see DTC and ecommerce, beauty and apps and SaaS.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much do UGC ads cost?

In our rate model a 15 to 30 second UGC video costs $150 from a nano creator, $225 from a micro creator and $375 from a mid-tier creator, before usage rights. Three months of paid usage adds $55 per micro video. Media spend is separate.

Do I need usage rights to run UGC as ads?

Yes. Paying for a video does not by itself give you the right to put ad spend behind it. Agree a paid usage term in writing, three months is a sensible default, and extend it only on videos that keep winning.

How many UGC videos do I need to start?

Enough to compare angles: five videos with three hooks each gives fifteen variations, which is a workable first test for most ad accounts. Fewer than that and one bad creator choice decides the result.

What is the difference between UGC ads and Spark Ads?

A UGC ad usually runs from your brand handle using a file the creator delivered. A Spark Ad boosts the creator's own TikTok post with their handle attached. See TikTok Spark Ads for how to set one up and what it costs.

Can I run UGC ads without a marketplace or agency?

Yes. Find creators, email them a short paid offer, agree price and rights, and pay them directly. That is how most in-house teams run it; a database such as UGC Agent shortens the finding part. See how to hire UGC creators.
