UGC marketing for brands

UGC marketing for brands: the strategy, the costs and the tools.

UGC marketing means paying creators who look like your customers to make videos you run as ads, product page clips and social posts. The strategy is a monthly loop: source creators, brief them, license the videos, test them, rebook the winners. A starter month with five micro creators costs about $1,850 in creator fees.

Who this is for

Written for brand owners who run marketing themselves and for in-house marketing, social and growth teams at bigger brands. The definition lives in the glossary; this page is about running the program.

Brand owners

Run it yourself in a few hours a week: one brief, three to five creators a month, every video tested as an ad before it goes anywhere else. Budget creator fees, not an agency retainer.

In-house brand teams

Make it a program: a creator bench, a rights log, a monthly testing calendar and one owner who approves creators and cuts across paid social, organic, CRM and ecommerce.

Hand it off if

nobody can own briefing and approvals. A managed service or a UGC marketing agency runs the loop for a fee on top of creator pay.

Step by step

A UGC marketing strategy in six steps

The strategy is the loop, not a one-off order. New to the term? Start with what UGC marketing is.

  1. Decide what the content is for

Pick the channels in order: paid social first for most brands, then product pages, email and organic social. Give each a single measure, such as cost per purchase for ads or conversion rate on the product page.

  2. Write down the buyer and three angles

Who buys, what they worry about, and three angles to test: the problem, the demo and the comparison or testimonial. Every brief and every creator choice follows from this page.

  3. Build a creator bench

Shortlist 20 to 40 creators whose recent videos already look like your category, then pick three to five a month. Start from the creator directory by niche or country, or hire UGC creators directly.

  4. Brief and contract every order

One-page brief, fixed deliverables, a usage term and a delivery date, in writing before anyone films. Use the brief generator and the contract template.

  5. Test as ads, then reuse the winners

Launch every video as its own ad first. Move the winners to product pages, email and organic, where they are proven. Details on running UGC ads.

  6. Review monthly and rebook

Keep the creators and angles that won, drop the rest, and log every asset's usage expiry date. The bench gets better every month; one-off orders never compound.

Costs

What a UGC marketing program costs per month

Creator fees only, from our rate model, typical with the low to high range. Software, product, shipping, editing and ad spend are on top.

2026 planning estimates from the UGC Agent rate model, the same model behind our UGC rate calculator and UGC rates pages. Low, typical and high are a range to negotiate within, not a quote.

Each row is the per-video price for 15 to 30 second videos ($150 nano, $225 micro, $375 mid typical) plus the add-ons listed, times the volume. The full price list is on how much UGC costs, and is UGC worth it works through the payback.

Software is the smaller line. Sourcing in UGC Agent costs $29 to $199 a month with no fee on creator pay; marketplaces charge a subscription, a percentage of creator pay, or both, as the table below shows.

Our product

Where UGC Agent fits, and where it does not

Use UGC Agent when

  • You run the loop in-house and want the sourcing step fast: 29,194 UGC creators with public emails, filtered by niche, country, platform and follower band.
  • You keep a bench: saved lists, tags and a creator CRM board from New to Contacted, Replied and Booked.
  • You want to learn from other brands: brand pages show which creators post UGC for a brand and how often.
  • You want no percentage on creator pay; the plan is the whole software cost.

Pick something else when

  • You need contracts, payments and content delivery handled in one platform. Marketplaces such as Insense or Collabstr do that, for a fee.
  • You want the program run for you. A managed service or agency is the honest answer.
  • You mainly want customer reviews and photos on product pages. A reviews and gallery tool such as Okendo or Taggbox fits that job.
  • You need YouTube, Pinterest or LinkedIn creators. UGC Agent covers Instagram and TikTok only.

Plans: Pro $29/month (200 creator leads a month), Premium $59/month (5,000 leads, 5 seats, MCP) or Ultra $199/month (no caps, API, 10 seats), each starting with a 3-day free trial that shows every creator in full; emails and export unlock when the paid plan starts. See pricing.

Strategy

UGC marketing and influencer marketing are different budgets

UGC marketing buys content you distribute through your own ads and channels, so you judge creators on how they film. Influencer marketing buys reach on the creator's account, so you judge them on their audience. Many teams run both; keep the briefs, budgets and success measures separate.

That is also why most UGC creators are small. In our October 2026 index 22,579 of 29,194 UGC creators have fewer than 5,000 followers, and 5,060 sit between 5,000 and 25,000. Follower count is a weak signal for UGC; recent videos are a strong one.

Categories

Where the creator supply is deep, by category

In the same index the largest niches are beauty (6,645), fitness (3,966), parenting (3,013), lifestyle (2,311), fashion (2,226), travel (2,093), home (1,619), tech (1,409) and food (1,347). A brand in those categories can build a bench in days; finance (510) and productivity (143) take more searching.

Category playbooks: DTC and ecommerce, beauty and wellness, fitness and health, food and beverage, fashion and SaaS, apps and AI, where app teams pair screen recordings with a face on camera.

Operations

Rights, disclosure and the paperwork

Every asset needs three facts on file: who made it, which rights you bought, and when they end. Most disputes come from a video still running after its usage term lapsed. A shared sheet with an expiry column is enough at first.

Paid content has to be labelled as advertising wherever it runs: the FTC rules in the US, ASA and CMA in the UK, and similar rules in Canada, Australia and the EU. Put the disclosure in the brief, and keep creators away from health or earnings claims your product cannot support.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is a UGC marketing strategy?

A repeating monthly loop: choose what the content is for, define the buyer and the angles, source a few creators, brief and contract them, test their videos as ads, and rebook the creators whose videos win. The loop is the strategy.

How much does UGC marketing cost per month?

In our rate model a starter month with five micro creators, each delivering one video with two extra hooks and three months of paid usage, costs $1,850 in creator fees. Software, product, editing and ad spend are separate.

Is UGC marketing worth it for a small brand?

Usually, if you run paid social: UGC is the cheapest way to get many ad variations to test. See is UGC worth it for the payback maths.

How many creators should a UGC program start with?

Three to five a month. Fewer and one creator decides the result; more and you cannot review every video properly. Grow the bench from the creators whose videos win.

Do I need a UGC platform or an agency?

Neither is required. You can find creators, email them and pay them directly. A platform saves sourcing time, a marketplace adds payments and contracts, and an agency adds people to run it.
