UGC video benchmarks 2026: length, format and creator size, measured

How long a UGC video should be, whether slideshows work, whose account should post it and how big the creator needs to be, answered from 11,849 real brand-program videos instead of opinion.

The short answer

Across 11,849 brand UGC videos from 46 creator programs (1 August 2026 to 30 October 2026), videos of 60 seconds to 2 minutes got 1.82x their program's median views and 27% reached 10x, against 0.87x and 6% for 15 to 30 seconds, the most common length. Slideshows trailed videos, and posts on a creator's own account produced 14% breakout hits against 5% for accounts made for the brand.

  • Longer beats shorter. 60 seconds to 2 minutes is 1.82x the program median, and it beats 15 to 30 seconds inside 11 of the 15 programs that post both.
  • The most common length does worst. 35% of videos run 15 to 30 seconds, and they sit at 0.87x.
  • Creator size still matters. The median video rises from 0.78x under 1,000 followers to 1.55x at 10,000 to 100,000, in 14 of 14 programs with both.
  • Own accounts make the breakouts. The typical video is similar (0.99x against 1.01x), but 14% of own-account videos reached 10x against 5%.

How long should a UGC video be?

Brief most UGC creators and you get 15 to 30 seconds. It is the most common length in these programs, 4,119 of 11,371 videos with a known duration, and it has the lowest typical result: 0.87x the program's median views, with 6% of videos reaching 10x.

Median views against the program's median, by video length
  1. Under 15 seconds2,798 videos, 37 programs0.95x
  2. 15 to 30 seconds4,119 videos, 32 programs0.87x
  3. 30 to 60 seconds3,359 videos, 35 programs1.07x
  4. 60 seconds to 2 minutes937 videos, 31 programs1.82x
  5. Over 2 minutes158 videos, 20 programs3.14x

1.00x is a program's typical video. Videos with a known duration; slideshows excluded.

Views climb with length. 30 to 60 seconds sits at 1.07x, 60 seconds to 2 minutes at 1.82x with 27% of videos reaching 10x, and the 158 videos over 2 minutes at 3.14x. Longer videos are rarer (9% of the sample), so treat the top band as a signal, not a rule.

The pattern is not one viral program pulling the average. Comparing the bands inside each program, 60 seconds to 2 minutes beats 15 to 30 seconds in 11 of the 15 programs with at least 10 videos in both, and 30 to 60 seconds beats it in 12 of 19.

Why it might work: a longer video has room for a real story (a problem, a try, a result) and earns more watch time, which both TikTok and Instagram reward. A short video is cheaper to make and easier to cut into ads, which is why briefs default to it. If you buy for organic reach, ask for a longer cut. Short still wins where a placement caps length, such as some paid ad slots; the UGC ad examples guide shows both styles.

Videos or photo slideshows

Slideshows are cheap to make, and some app programs post them in volume. In these programs they underperform: 212 slideshows from 14 programs got 0.85x the program median and 4% reached 10x, against 1.00x and 9% for videos.

Does creator size matter?

Yes, and it is the strongest pattern in the data. The median video from an account under 1,000 followers gets 0.78x its program's median; from 1,000 to 10,000, 1.15x; from 10,000 to 100,000, 1.55x. Inside single programs, 10,000 to 100,000 beats under 1,000 in 14 of the 14 programs with both.

  2. 1,000 to 10,0003,024 videos, 46 programs1.15x
  3. 10,000 to 100,0001,621 videos, 36 programs1.55x

Accounts of 100,000 followers and over (662 videos) reach 12.18x, off the scale of this chart.

Small accounts are still most of what programs post: 55% of videos come from accounts under 1,000 followers. They are cheap and they add volume, but a program that wants reach from each video does better with creators who already have an audience. See UGC rates for what each size costs.

The creator's own account or an account made for the brand

Many app programs pay creators to run accounts that post only the app (we call these dedicated accounts). 56% of videos in this sample come from them. Their typical video does about as well as a video on the creator's own account (1.01x against 0.99x; own accounts win in 7 of 15 programs with both).

The difference is in the breakouts. 14% of videos on a creator's own account reached 10x the program median, against 5% on dedicated accounts. An audience that already trusts the creator gives a video more chances to take off.

TikTok or Instagram

Compared fairly, the platforms are close. In the 14 programs with at least 10 videos on each, TikTok videos got 0.99x the program median and Instagram videos 1.07x, with 8% and 10% reaching 10x. Raw totals look very different because 85% of program videos are on TikTok, so pick the platform for your audience, not for a format myth.

Captions, hashtags and sound

Captions matter less than length and creator. Opens with a question: 0.89x (730 videos); No caption text: 1.00x (674 videos). Numbered-list, POV and GRWM captions are too rare in this sample to report on their own; the CSV lists their counts.

Fewer hashtags did slightly better: posts with none got 1.23x, posts with 4 to 6 got 0.98x. Videos on an original sound got 1.02x against 0.93x for a licensed or trending track.

Boosted posts

Videos that carry the platform's own ad or paid-partnership label got 1.20x the program median and 17% reached 10x, against 0.98x and 8% without it. The label usually means the brand put ad spend behind the post (TikTok Spark Ads, Instagram partnership ads), so this measures paid reach, not a better video. It is also the clearest way to disclose a paid post, which the FTC requires.

What to put in your next UGC brief

  • Ask for one longer cut. Request a 60 to 120 second version alongside the short ad edit. It is the best performing band here and costs little extra on a typical rate card.
  • Prefer videos to slideshows unless volume is the whole plan.
  • Pay for some reach. Mix creators with 10,000 to 100,000 followers into a roster of small accounts.
  • Let creators post on their own account when you want breakouts; use dedicated accounts for steady volume.
  • Boost the winners and label them. Put spend behind videos that already beat your median, and always disclose paid posts.

Method and limits

Every video comes from the UGC Brands database inside UGC Agent: brand videos posted by accounts attributed to a brand's creator program from public evidence (confirmed and likely accounts). A raw view count mostly measures the brand, so each video is compared with its own program's median over the window: 1.00x is a typical video for that program, and "reached 10x" means at least ten times it.

  • Fully scanned programs only (up to 40 recent videos read per account). Sampled programs read one or two posts per account and hide Instagram views, so they are left out.
  • Window: 1 August 2026 to 30 October 2026, videos with a public view count, programs with at least 15 videos in the window. Videos per month: 2026-08 1,968, 2026-09 7,220, 2026-10 2,661.
  • A segment is reported only with at least 150 videos from 8 programs.
  • These are correlations. A longer video may do better partly because better creators make longer videos. The per-program comparisons reduce, but do not remove, that effect.
  • Most programs in the sample are apps, which post far more than consumer brands. Consumer brands are in the sample but carry less weight.
  • Views are public counts on the measured date; recent videos have had less time to collect them.
  • Aggregates only: this page and its CSV carry no creator handle, caption or video link.

Questions about UGC video performance

What is the best length for a UGC video?

In these programs, 60 seconds to 2 minutes: 1.82x the program's median views and 27% reaching 10x. 15 to 30 seconds, the most common length, got 0.87x.

Do UGC slideshows work?

Less well than videos: 0.85x the program median against 1.00x, with 4% reaching 10x.

Should UGC go on TikTok or Instagram?

Where a program posts on both, results are close (0.99x on TikTok, 1.07x on Instagram). Choose by where your buyers are.

Do bigger creators get more views on UGC?

Yes. The median video rises from 0.78x under 1,000 followers to 1.55x at 10,000 to 100,000.

Can I use these numbers?

Yes. Quote them with a link to this page and the window (1 August 2026 to 30 October 2026). The segment table is a CSV download below.
