POV video

A POV video is filmed or captioned from the viewer's point of view, using a 'POV:' setup line so the audience imagines themselves inside the scene.

What POV means in a video

A POV video is a short clip framed from the viewer's point of view, usually opened with an on-screen line starting 'POV:' that sets up a situation, such as 'POV: you finally found a moisturiser that does not pill'. The creator then acts out the scene, filming first person or speaking to the viewer, so viewers picture themselves there.

A POV is a framing device rather than a production style, which separates it from a day in the life clip that documents a creator's real routine. The POV scenario can be invented, exaggerated or comic, and the setup line does most of the work.

How brands use POV content

POV setups are cheap to produce and easy to iterate, so they suit volume testing. Write five setup lines that each express one customer frustration or desire, then ask the creator to film a short scene for each. The setup line doubles as the hook, so you are effectively testing openings.

The format runs natively on TikTok and Reels and can move into paid placements if the scene does not depend on a trending sound. Ask the creator to film without background audio so a cleared track can be laid in during the edit; the TikTok Commercial Music Library entry explains why that matters.

Example: POV lines for a sleep app

Three setups sent to one creator: 'POV: it is 2am and you are still scrolling', 'POV: you fell asleep before the meditation ended', 'POV: your partner asks why you are suddenly a morning person'. Each scene runs 8 to 12 seconds, shot in a bedroom at night, with the app screen shown once.

The creator delivers all three plus raw clips. You run them side by side with equal budget and keep the setup that holds viewers longest. More scripted structures are in the UGC script template.

Common mistakes

A setup line that describes the product instead of the viewer's situation stops being a POV. 'POV: our serum has niacinamide' is an ad headline, not a scene.

Brands also lean on phrasings past their shelf life. A POV line that was everywhere last quarter reads as stale now. Keep the structure, write fresh situations from customer reviews and support tickets, and let the creator adapt the wording to their own voice.

How it's used

  1. Give me five POV lines from the review mining doc and we'll ask Sam to film all five tomorrow.

  2. The POV ad works because the setup is the hook; don't bury it under a logo intro.
