TikTok Commercial Music Library

TikTok's Commercial Music Library is the set of songs and sounds cleared for business use, the only music brands can put under organic posts and ads.

What the Commercial Music Library is

The TikTok Commercial Music Library is the collection of songs and sounds TikTok has pre-cleared for commercial use. Business accounts and ads are restricted to it, plus original audio they own, while personal accounts get the full music catalogue. It marks the line between a trending sound a creator can post for fun and one that can legally sit under an ad.

Trending audio is the confusable part. A sound climbing the TikTok Creative Center trend pages may be a licensed hit that is cleared only for personal posts. Spark Ads add a wrinkle: a creator's own post can be promoted, but it still has to pass TikTok's music checks for ads, so check the sound before you pick a post.

How it works with creators

Put the audio rule in the brief. Ask creators to choose music from the Commercial Music Library, use their own voice and natural sound, or deliver the video with no music so your editor can add a cleared track. Ask them to name the track they used, so whoever uploads the ad can confirm it.

For paid UGC uploaded as a dark post, the cleanest route is a music-free master plus a separate voice track. That keeps the creative usable on Meta and other channels too, where TikTok's library does not apply and music needs its own license.

A worked example

A fitness app gets back a creator's video set to a chart song that is trending on the app. It performs well on her own profile, but the app's ads team cannot use it: the track is not in the commercial library, so the ad would not clear review.

The creator re-exports the edit with no music. The editor lays a library track with a similar tempo under the voiceover and builds both a TikTok version and a Reels version. The brief template now asks for music-free masters by default.

Common mistakes

Assuming a sound is fine because thousands of creators use it. Popularity says nothing about commercial clearance, and user posts sit under different terms from ads. Search the library for the exact track before anyone spends money on it.

Forgetting other platforms. A track cleared in TikTok's library is cleared there, not on Instagram, YouTube or your website. If the same cut will run elsewhere, use music you have licensed for all of those channels, or keep it voice only. The UGC usage rights guide covers the wider usage rights question.

How it's used

  1. Please deliver a version with no music. We'll add a track from the commercial library in edit.

  2. That sound isn't commercially cleared, so the Spark Ad will get rejected. Can you swap it for a library track?
