The short answer
- No hashtags
- 1.23x17.0% reached 10x
- 1 to 3 hashtags
- 1.00x10.7% reached 10x
- 4 to 6 hashtags
- 0.98x70.8% of posts
- Original sound
- 1.02xagainst 0.93x for a track
- More hashtags did not help. Results fall from 1.23x with none to 0.98x with 4 to 6; only 43 posts used 7 or more, too few to report.
- Original sound beat licensed or trending tracks on TikTok, 1.02x against 0.93x.
- Question openers trailed. Captions whose first line is a question got 0.89x; posts with no caption text at all got 1.00x.
- Hashtags matter less than length and creator. The gaps here are a few tenths; length and creator size move results by whole multiples.

1.00x is a typical post for that program.
| Segment | Videos | Programs | Median vs program median | Reached 10x | Median views |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| No hashtags | 629 | 36 | 1.23x | 17.0% | 18,070 |
| 1 to 3 hashtags | 2,793 | 39 | 1.00x | 10.7% | 815 |
| 4 to 6 hashtags | 8,384 | 46 | 0.98x | 8.3% | 694 |
In these programs hashtags added little, and a wall of them can make a post read like an ad.
Keep one program hashtag for tracking
Many programs ask creators for a program hashtag (for example #brandpartner) so the brand can find and count the posts. In the median consumer brand program 100% of 30-day posts carried one; in the median app program, 32.6%. One tag for tracking costs nothing against the numbers above. See UGC program hashtags.
Original sound or a trending track
| Segment | Videos | Programs | Median vs program median | Reached 10x | Median views |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Original sound | 6,631 | 26 | 1.02x | 9.3% | 709 |
| Licensed or trending track | 3,059 | 25 | 0.93x | 7.4% | 705 |
UGC is mostly a person talking to camera, so original sound is the default and it did slightly better. A trending track can still suit a montage or an unboxing.
Caption openers
| Segment | Videos | Programs | Median vs program median | Reached 10x | Median views |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Opens with a question | 730 | 33 | 0.89x | 11.5% | 645 |
| No caption text | 674 | 38 | 1.00x | 13.7% | 1,657 |
Numbered-list, POV, GRWM and storytime captions are too rare in this sample to report; the CSV lists their counts. The UGC hook generator helps with the spoken hook, which matters more than the caption.
Method
Posts: 11,849 brand posts from 46 fully scanned programs, 1 August 2026 to 30 October 2026, each compared with its own program's median (UGC video benchmarks 2026). Hashtags are counted in the caption; caption styles read the first line with hashtags removed; sound uses TikTok's label ("original sound" or a named track). Program hashtag shares: 30-day posts of 97 published programs with a known program hashtag.

Limitations
- Correlations, not tests. Brands that skip hashtags may differ in other ways.
- Caption styles are matched by simple text rules, so some posts are misclassified.
- Sound data covers TikTok only.
