Green screen video

Green screen video replaces the background behind a creator, and the TikTok green screen effect drops an image or screenshot there while the creator talks.

Talking in front of something

A green screen video replaces the background behind a person so an image, screenshot or chart sits there instead. On TikTok the green screen effect does it without any physical backdrop, keying the creator out of whatever room they are in. For brands the point is evidence: a claim spoken to camera lands differently when the review, the ingredient list or the price page is visible over the speaker's shoulder.

Underneath it is chroma key, the old trick of filming against a flat colour and swapping that colour for another picture. The creator version usually skips the fabric because the platform effect handles it live, which means somebody can hold up a screenshot mid-sentence instead of planning a composite in advance.

Structurally it is still a talking head video. What changes is that half the frame becomes a slide, so information that would otherwise be crammed into captions can sit behind the speaker. Availability and behaviour of the effect shift with app updates, so check the current documentation before you build a campaign around it.

What to put behind the creator

Pick backgrounds that show something faster than a sentence could say it: a review with the wording readable, an ingredient panel, a chart built from your own first-party numbers, an earlier photo, a comparison you can substantiate. Other people's screenshots need care, because putting one in an ad republishes somebody else's material.

Use one background per point and change it when the point changes. A single static image behind a forty-second monologue wastes the mechanic and gives your editor nowhere to cut. The first background is effectively part of the hook, so watch hook rate when you swap it, and treat the later swaps as natural edit points for a shorter cut.

Production notes for the brief

Supply the images yourself instead of letting the creator choose. That is the only way to be sure the review on screen is real, the numbers are yours, and nothing in shot breaks your brand safety rules. Send them numbered in the order you want them to appear.

Two framing notes worth writing down: the creator stays to one side so the background is readable, and nothing important goes in the lower third where the interface sits. Ask for a clean version with no background keyed in as well, because a flattened file cannot be updated when a price moves or a claim gets rejected.

How it's used

  1. Put the one-star competitor review behind her, not ours, and swap the image every time she moves to a new point. The static background felt like a lecture.

  2. We will send four background images numbered in order. Stay to the left of frame so the text stays readable and keep nothing important in the bottom third.
